Spinal injections are used in two ways. First, they can be performed to diagnose the source of back, leg, neck, or arm pain (diagnostic) . Second, spinal injections are used as a treatment to relieve pain (therapeutic)
Most spinal injections are performed as one part of a more comprehensive treatment program. Simultaneous treatment nearly always includes an exercise program to improve or maintain spinal mobility (stretching exercises) and stability (strengthening exercises) (AAOS, 2015) .

Spinal fusion is a surgical procedure used to correct problems with the vertebrae. It is essentially a “welding” process. The basic idea is to fuse together the painful vertebrae so that they heal into a single, solid bone.
An interbody fusion involves removing the intervertebral disc. When the disc space has been cleared out, a metal, plastic, or bone spacer is implanted between the two adjoining vertebrae.
In an anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) , the procedure is performed from the front.

Artificial disc replacement is a newer surgical procedure for relieving low back pain. Similar to hip or knee joint replacements, a disc replacement substitutes a mechanical device for an intervertebral disc in the spine. The device is meant to restore motion to the spine by replacing the worn, degenerated disc.
Neck surgery usually is considered a treatment for neck pain only when all other approaches have failed. Most doctors would rather a patient first try treating their neck pain using medicine, rest, and physical therapy. For one thing, with all its risks and side effects, there is no guarantee neck surgery will help. However, when successful, it can provide the pain relief you’re looking for.
There are times when surgery is the best option for treating the medical condition responsible for your neck pain.

Wanted to first explore non-surgical methods, but after those provided no relief for my cervical radiculopathy, he decided to replace 2 discs. Once the pain subsided, I couldn't believe I had lived with that pain for 7 years before finding him. My quality of life is so much better and I'm so much happier.

After visiting countless doctors, I finally ended up in Dr Mirs office last year for a years-old neck injury. Instead of immediately suggesting surgery as a past doctor had, Dr Mir had me undergo multiple tests that I had never been asked to do before (CT, nerve testing), had me go to a specialist for cortisone injections, and sent me to physical therapy.
After a year of tests, progress monitoring, and check ins, we decided to go ahead with surgery. Dr Mir always made me feel like an equal, taking all of my thoughts and concerns into consideration. I had my surgery about two months ago and feel great. Dr Mir is an incredibly brilliant surgeon who truly wants the best for his patients. I will forever be grateful to him.

DrMir is one of the best surgeons I have had. It's been 7 weeks since having 4 discs fused in my neck and it's already fused and healing far better than expected. I can still move my neck in all directions. He is very patient with me and answers all my questions. The staff is top notch and do everything quickly and are extremely helpful. Highly recommend!

Dr. Mir is an excellent surgeon in my opinion. I had a two level Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion a month ago and was off the pain med's in just a couple of days. Four weeks later I feel great! I was really surprised at how small of an incision he works through to do this procedure. So far I am very pleased with the outcome.

Great Surgeon. This Is My Second Surgery. My First Experience With A Different Doctor Was Horrible, Long Recovery And Felt Very Impersonal. Decided To Go Try Dr. Mir And I Am So Glad I Did. Got The Best Treatment Their, Felt Like I Was At The Ritz. Nurses Were Great, Were Very Attentive. My Recovery Time More Than Double. Last Time It Took Around 3 Months To Walk, This Time 2 Weeks. So I would Highly Recommend Dr Mir

Dr. Mir is the real deal. He and his team are the best of the best and if I could give him 100 stars on here I would. After consulting with a number of other physicians regarding my neck issues, Dr. Mir was the most thorough in providing an explanation as to what my condition was and what my treatment options were. I opted to have disc replacement surgery with him and wish I had done it way sooner. He is a true professional and I'm lucky to have found him when I did!

I am very happy with Dr. Mir, and the results of my recent surgery in June of this year. Ive had a serious problem with my leg and back for the past few years and suffered with a great deal of pain. However, since my surgery I no longer have any pain and i am very satisfied with the results. Dr. Mir called me personally to check on me and visited me everyday after my surgery.
His office in Jamboree is very organized, and everything was always on time. The staff is extremely caring, kind, and compassionate. I also want to acknowledge how grateful I am of the staff at St Joseph hopital where Dr. Mir operated on me. Especially Nurse Shanna McDaniel, who was very kind and professional and saw me through my healing immediately after surgery. Congratulations to St. Joseph hospital for having someone like Shanna McDaniel on their team. Thank you again to Dr. Hamid Mir and Nurse Shanna McDaniel for taking care of me. I wish you the very best. Sincerely, Parviz Takallou

I have had major back issues for years. I consulted with Dr. Mir and was certain he would recommend surgery. After reviewing my MRI he suggested 3 to 6 months intense physical therapy instead. Shortly after my third month of therapy my back felt better than it had in 15 years. I was able to resume my various activities, including surfing, snowboarding and tennis with virtually no pain.
I have the utmost respect and gratitude for Dr. Mir and his entire staff. He could have easily convinced me to have surgery, but he thankfully was more concerned with what was best for me. He and his staff are the very best

I was referred to the Disc sport and spine center after suffering severe sciatic pain with numbness from my calf to outside of my foot. After they reviewed my MRI I had a herniated disc at L5/S1 that was protruding on my S1 nerve root, surgery was the best option to decompress the nerve. Dr Mir was very honest about what results I could expect from the surgery and explained the procedure and post-operative PT and time line for a return to work.
I elected to have the surgery and it was done in their own operating facility in Newport Beach what big difference than other procedures I had done in a hospital. The facility was clean comfortable and the staff friendly and attentive during the pre and post op, I went home that day and walked out with a back brace. After one week I was out and walking outside with the back brace on and had already less numbness in my leg and no sciatic pain.
After four weeks I started PT at the Soft Tissue center at Disc and started to immediately regain lost strength in my hip/leg and my numbness continued to diminish, At eight weeks I started adding more exercises to the PT regimen and am getting stronger and my numbness is down to just my little toe. All of this was explained to me very well by Doctor Mir and I must say I am impressed with the outcome of the procedure and Doctor Mir and all his staff and the staff at the soft tissue center and Doctor Summers who is guiding the PT and doing soft tissue work. For anyone on the fence and in pain I say don't wait to have surgery doctor Mir is the man, thanks for fixing me up.

Back surgery was not something I thought I would never do. I'll just suffer through the pain. The procedure Dr Mir used to eliminate my sciatica and shooting pains Worked. After many epidurals and therapy with limited success I accepted Dr Mir's approach. I was in surgery for a short time, recovery and overnight in the hospital. The next day at 3 pm I walked to my car and after some post physical therapy put my 77 year old body back on the active routine I enjoy.

I am 67 years old and retired. About a year ago I began to develop pain in my left leg which progressed from occasional to constant and severe. Just standing for any longer than a few minutes was incredibly painful. I consulted several doctors who all said that my condition required surgery after looking at the MRI. But which surgeon should I choose?
I spoke to my brother-in-law who is a paraplegic about my pain and he recommended that I speak to Dr. Mir. When I spoke to Dr. Mir, my wife and I asked him as many questions as we could think of and he answered all of them patiently and completely. He even said that if I wanted to try an injection to ameliorate the pain temporarily while I tried to rehab my spine and avoid an operation he would help me with that option.
My mind was made up: I had lumbar decompression surgery two weeks later (after getting the pre surgery physical and stopping my over the counter pain medicines). I went home the day after surgery. It was as if someone had turned off the "pain switch!" I began walking immediately. Short distances at first, but now 2-3 miles at a good pace. It has been 6 weeks since the surgery and I begin formal rehab this week (recommended by Dr. Mir) to stretch and strengthen my spine/lumbar muscles. No more pain. Thank you Dr. Mir!
